CGX Tours 2011 End Of Year Awards

This years awards were even a bit harder to decide on. It was a tough decision with all of the excellent performances by all of the staff and designers. Byt the end of the day it became clear who should have the awards.

CGX Designer of the Year goes to what I consider a partnership. They work together as a pair of hands. Each adding excellence to their craft. After diving right in and devoting 110% they have entrenched a solid spot high on our designer list. They have worked the full spectrum of designing, new builds, rebuilds, rennovations, structures, panos, and textures. They are the complete package and real deal. I like to refer to them affectionately as the M & M Team. Mike and Mark, or better known as MSR Golf and Tee Off Golf. I am so pleased and proud to have these two talented brothers as part of our great team. Thank you so much guys for gracing us with your impeccable work.

CGX Staff Member of the Year goes to Tim or better known as CJ53. Tim stepped in at the beginning of the season to help me out with the US Tour. Soon he was taking over the daily operations and organization of events and working closely with JB and Andy to get each event off. That wasn't enough. He decided to take on managing the preperation of the course releases. making sure each course was on schedule and everything was getting done. He also stepped in to get graphics done, textures replaced and all of the article and course database management. There would have been significant panic and scrambling to get many events out if it were not for the selfless work of this individual. We have spent countless nights well into 3AM many times getting ready for some events. This really was a full time job, and Tim gave everything he had. His dedication was almost unbelievable. Thank you Tim for such a stellar job.

I also need to sincerely thank the rest of the staff members and designers for the excellent jobs they do. Each is instrumental in making sure all of our members can participate every week on our wonderful tours. Each and every one of you is also deserving of this award. Thank you so much. Without you all we would not have what we have built together.

World Rankings (OWR) 2012

This season the threshold will be dropped from 60 events to 40 events - basically how this works is like this

until you reach 40 events played (combined from both tours) your world ranking points are divided by 40, once you reach the threshold your world ranking points become divided by the amount of events you play, so if you have played 50 events then your points will be divided by 50 etc....

an event played this season for world ranking purposes only will be deemed any event that you complete at least 1 hole of, this will stop players who DNF in events where they know they can not get enough points to increase their OWR

we will still use the minimum 5 completed events as a precursor to all events where qualification is needed ie Majors and WGC events etc..

New Reset Policy for 2012

We have discussed long and hard the ups and downs of the current reset policy of 10 stroke penalty, whilst this has had the desired effect that it was introduced for it has also resulted in punishing players who are honest, i know you are all not in favour of this policy but it was and still is needed.

What we have decided to do however is to reduce the 10 stroke penalty to 3 strokes, this will still deter the players who feel the need to pull the plug during a round, but it means that players who have internet issues or game crashes will not be so severely hit and would now be encouraged to finish the events each week and still have a good chance to make the cut.

This new reset policy will include anyone who sets up their game wrong and then tees off .. there is no need to ever be DQd for this, simply ALT-TAB to desktop check settings are correct then play your round,
Due to the reduction in the penalty, any non CGX errors will now be penalised, whether a ball has been hit or not...once you start your game via the launcher, you have been deemed active for that round

if you have set the game incorrectly DO NOT close the launcher/game just go back to main menu in TW08 and reset with correct settings.

This also applies to any playing partners in that game - ALL must return to LAN Lobby after using the Return to Main Menu option in the game menu if one player has NOT started Game through launcher, then continue on solo, and pair up next Rd

With regards to players who have continual reset requests..you will be monitored and if needed your resets will be capped to a certain amount<

Some players seem to disconnect a lot on the last hole, there is a simple way to help solve this issue,
do not close your game/launcher until you have got the round recorded successfully message
if you close the game down to quickly after holing out you may not be leaving enough time for the data to be sent across to the launcher, i am not saying this is the definitive answer to this but it might well help.

Players who have lots of connection/disconnection issues in a round need to check that things are not updating in the background unknown, things like windows updates/antivirus updates/ and anything else you have open can cause this, try playing without your web browser open

We have an average of 1000+ rounds played per week through our launchers and we have maybe 10 tickets for user end errors per week, so trust us when we say it is not the launcher , it is your system or your internet...these are things that you as a tour member can look to solve.

there are no user error resets in the last 12 hours of any tournament ...this has not changed from last season.
In the case of a server crash during this final 12 hour period then resets will be granted if possible

you will only be granted 1 user error reset per round

the following information from Julne 2011 remains in effect

Quote

Sent 18 June 2011 - 07:12 AM

****** This is a PM sent to all members ******

When we have a server crash you will still need to put in a ticket with screen shots into the help desk for a reset, we do not automatically reset rounds...so no ticket no reset.

All tickets should be accompanied by the appropriate screen shot showing both launcher and error message windows clearly, we ask for these because they show us important information, in some instances a screen shot is not available (PC close-down, Power failure, etc...) in these instances please make sure you clearly identify what tour and what round it happened, again this will save us time. (to post your screenshots you will need to use the full editor on your ticket, we only accept .jpeg or .png files so please be sure to only use theses 2 formats)

When a server (CGX Error) happens and you have been reset there is a good chance you will receive an error at the end of your replayed round, this does not mean you have been DQ'd again but it does mean you need to wait before you can carry on, the easiest way to speed this process up would be to enter a ticket explaining this and we can then manually move you onto the next round. You can also check leaderboard after 15 mins and if your round score shows then you can play on.

If you are given a reset for any reason you will be told how many holes have recorded in the database so far, you then need to replay the entire round again, with any unplayed holes counting towards your final score, however as the process of updating reset round scores is a manual one your score on leader board may not be correct until I have had the chance to amend the records, please be patient in these instances as we are volunteer staff and have real lives outside of CGX that will always take priority...they will be amended asap.

Remember do not play on in any event if your launcher is showing the wrong round to be played, doing so will result in a DQ from said event.

Thanks

Introduction of a new cut %

As the regular season is coming to a close on the US Tour i would like to announce a new way that CGX will be operating the "cut" in its tournaments

This new cut will be 86% of the starters (anyone who goes to the 1st tee ) for each tour, and will come into effect on the US tour next week at the Justin Timberlake Open and will be applied to the World Tour after the CGX World Tour Championship in December

I have posted a chart so members can see what the cut will be each week

Career Stats Player Pages

Many of you have requested a more extensive view of your career stats. As promised I have this completed. You can view stats for any player by vising their forum profile and on the left hand side below the picture you will see a link 'View My Stats' This will take you to the career page for that person. From there there are several bits of info. You can also access a complete season results for each tour played by clicking on the year link in season performance area.

Also on this page is a "What is the Bag" section. Allowing you to display your equipment setup that you use.
This will need to be set from your profile settings
[Top Right Down Arrow next to your name: My Settings, then Profile tab]
Some of you may have did this in the past but will need to be refreshed again as we had to make a change to the data structure for proper operation.

As we build up of individual player stats archives(currently there is only one week from the previous week) we will be adding more sections to cover that as well as a comparison to the tours best.

If you have any questions ,comments, or problems, please reply here or send me a PM. Hope all enjoy. This was a very fun project with several hundred hours invested. Feels good to be done with it

New Tournament Times - Update Nov 29

Starting with the Play-offs (Plainfield Championship) we will be introducing a new time-scale for tournaments to be played, this will be used on both the US and World tours and will be a permanent addition.

Rounds 1 and 2 will now have to be completed by Monday 8:00 PM ET / Midnight GMT ...the tee times will be removed after this time so if you have not completed these 2 rounds by this time you will not be able to play in that week, all 4 rounds will be active from the normal times and the event end times will remain as they are now.

We feel the need to do this to counteract players who are leaving all their rounds to the last minute.

Site Rebranding & PGA Discussions - May 28

Well the major points of the settlement are, we have to rebrand from pgaxtour.com As most of you have already noticed we have already started going to CGXTour. We have to make sure to remove all instances of the PGA Tour names, logos, etc. We are also changing the tournament names to remove trademarked sponsor names. For example this week is changed from HP Byron Nelson Championship to just Byron Nelson Championship. So overall in tournament names we will not be grossly modifying the schedule at all.

Next week on Wed night, actually very early Thur morning I will be moving pgaxtour.com to a new temporary server cluster. This move will take place at 0100 central daylight time in the US. This move will take about 15 minutes and the site will be offline for that period of time. The following weekend on Sat, June 4, I will move the web files to same server. This is a bit of lengthy process and will be brief periods of outages from 2300 CDT Sat 4 June until 0400 Sun 5 Jun. Launchers will be unaffected during the web file move. Over the course of the day on 5 Jun urls will change to cgxtour.com. I will have more details specific to next weekends web move to follow.

The good part of the negotiations is that I do not need to touch the launchers which rely heavily on the domain name pgaxtour.com. Also there are not any legal repercussions fines or penalties which is a great thing. I will just be very busy for the next several weeks as well as most of the staff here that are doing the rebranding. Also my legal firm is rather happy as they billed almost 50 hours last week

We are being bullied by THE PGA Tour

I have received a suit today to cease and desist using pgaxtour.com as a domain name. It appears we are taking business away from The PGA Tour. They also think I am going to turn over the domain name to them since their marketing idiots did not have the intelligence to register it first. So the bottom line is The PGAX Tour will now become the CGXTour. cgxtour.com is in the process of being registered along with many likenesses. Later this week I will begin the technical portion of re branding a massive web site.

I anticipate a an uninterrupted progression of transfer to the new naming conventions.

Besides the obvious in changing names there are many actions that most are unaware of. Things like recoding launchers and databases to new domain names and rewriting tens of thousands of lines of code for the website. Most of the transfer will be implemented by running mirrored services for the existing domain name as well as the new domain name.

I am going to be handling the expenses, litigation, etc without impact tot he members. However, donations to help cover any costs and such will be very graciously appreciated. Stay tuned as there will be many updates and additional information forthcoming frequently.

This whole thing is really such a joke and my attorney had a good laugh over it, but I am going to comply with everything excepting turning over the domain name. If they want the domain name they are going to have to purchase it or obtain it in court

The Greatest Shotmaker to have played golf

I am very saddened as I write this to learn of the passing of one of the greatest, most respected players to ever grace the game of golf with his presence. 7th May, 2011. Pedreña, Cantabria, Spain. Today, at 2.10 a.m. Spanish time, Seve Ballesteros passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his home in Pedreña. The Ballesteros family is very grateful for all the support and gestures of love that have been received since Seve was diagnosed with a brain tumour on 5th October 2008 at Madrid Hospital la Paz. At this time the family asks for respect and privacy at such a painful time. Thank you very much. I have such fond memories of watching Seve play as I went through my high school years working to be on the school golf team. Many fond memories which this man bring such skill to the course during his numerous Open Champioships. I remember very well when Seve became the first European to win a Green Jacket. This man was more than just a great champion golfer. He was truely a gentlemen and a sportsman, as well as a wonderful mentor and compadre to so many European golfers. His flair and magic with a wedge is really what I would call poetry in motion. He did things to recover from bad positions to score that most of us could not even begin to fathom. Seve, you will be deply missed, and never forgotten. It is very rare this game has the honor of someone of your character. Please join me in supporting the Seve Ballesteros Foundation. http://fundacionseve...steros.com/web/
