*****ANNOUNCEMENT***** This week cancelled

Due to the severe issues we have had and are still experiencing with the servers and launchers it has been decided to cancel this weeks events on all tours and reschedule them for asap

Jim has purchased new and improved servers and is in the process of getting the launchers added to these, once that is done we need to move the databases and then the site to the new servers, once this is done we will restart this weeks events, i know its not ideal but unfortunately there is no other way to get this weeks events completed.
Time frame for starting is possibly Wednesday or sooner if the work goes smoothly, bur rest assured once it is all transferred we will begin again without delay on the same courses/tournaments and afresh, sorry to all those that did complete, but it is unfair on all those that can't finish so a fresh start is the only option (especially as the hurricane kinda did not blow)

Thanks in advance for your understanding in this matter

European Charger Tour Launches This Week on Thursday!

The PGAX Tour has finished development of the new Euro Tour Launcher. This will allow us to have all levels of play on the Euro system. This week all tours will be playing the Scottish Open on Loch Lomond by PCDurum. It is an awesome course. I will be working on the new portal page for the Charger Tour. It will be running Friday at the latest. This Charger Tour will loosely mimic the European Charger Tour. Just like alot of the other new courses are getting into swing for all of the other new tours, these will eventually happen as well. Stay tuned to the news postings. There will be all of the info on the tournament as needed, and for specific tournament info, etc, course, round conditions, it will be the same as the Expert Euro Tour for this week.

All tour players playing Euro tours will need to have this new launcher. All logins and passwords have not changed. Click here to go to the download page

PGAX Launcher Reset Policy

From Today

Any launcher error with a 400 code will get a reset as these are faults on our end

errors with a 200 code will be monitored as these are ISP issues and not really the fault of PGAX, please ensure you have nothing else running when you play your rounds

Any other error will get 1 reset per event only, these include starting game with wrong settings, TW08 crashed, my internet crapped out, my house fell down, i timed out because i had to mow the lawn after i started my round...you get the general idea

Please be aware that the launcher records exactly why you got a dq or disconnect, so pulling the plug on the PC/Router shows up and this will not get a reset ever!!!! We would hope as members of PGAX you would only ask for a reset due to Launcher errors

It is felt that the resets are being abused and as PC owners and Tour Players you guys need to take some kind of responsibility for your set up.

When a round does get a reset only scores from the time of the crash/error will count as the launcher logs all score information, so please don't think that because you are having a bad round that you can get a reset and start over, once you have played your reset i will overwrite your new score with your original scores and then update the leaderboard (this is done when i get the chance, if you have a reset and need your scores altered then drop me a pm and i can get it done sooner)

Before posting your request for a reset please re-open your launcher and post the message you get in it into your ticket,

Players who have been reset for an error other than 400 / 200 will be listed so that all staff who handle resets can see before resetting again,

Please if you have had a reset for an issue that is not launcher related and you then get another error, just take it on the chin and accept that you are done for this week and do not post another ticket...thanks

Exceptional Scoring Rule

This rule will be used in play whenever possible (ie after i have enough data for the course rating).
The reason for this is to show true scoring on the leaderboard whenever possible

when a player scores 2 or more rounds that are at least 2 strokes under his handicap after the course has been rated, this is known as exceptional scoring, what happens then is that the players 2 lowest rounds under handicap are added together and then halved to give an average, this average is then matched up to the table of exceptional scoring and the result is an adjustment to the players handicap.

The Maximum a course is rated at is +3 (plays 3 strokes over the given par for the course)
The Minimum a course is rated at is -3 (plays 3 strokes under the given par for the course)

There is also an exceptional exceptional scoring rule whereas any player scoring 6.5 shots or more under their allowance in any single round will also be adjusted

These rules apply to every player irrespective of what position on the leaderboard they are.

The tables used to calculate exceptional scoring will not be made public, to stop any manipulation of the rule.

We are trying to run a tour where everyone has an equal chance of winning and this is the fairest way of doing it, this stops people playing "bad" and then suddenly finding their game when it matters most.

Personal Profile Customizations

Did you know that you can customize your profile page on PGAX? Yes, if you know how to customize your profile, it is up to you if you want to do it. Customize your backdrops, avatars and pictures (for forum posts and icons) so when people come to look at your profile, they will see your work. We would prefer that you keep your profiles, golf oriented, as this is a golfing website, but you may do what you like, so long as it is in good taste.

If you should choose to do this, please remember that this is a family website, so please keep all images in a respectful manner. If the Staff find it too edgey, or just not acceptable, your customizations could be reverted to the default setting and you will be notified as to why it was changed.

Go and have a look, and feel free to see what all you can do. We look forward to seeing your work.

Tour Site Improvements

We interrupt this normal everyday functions to bring you this special announcement

As many of you have noticed, we are working pretty much non stop 24*7 to really improve things for everyone and make this thee place to play online golf of any kind. The entire web site is being rebuilt one brick at a time from the ground up. This is being done while maintaining the site up-time. Most of the work goes very smooth and is not noticed until the new or improved areas appear. Jeff J and JB have been reorganizing the downloads section and I am happy to announce it is open for business. All of the design team courses are now available for download. This includes many courses that were not ever released at course downloads or anywhere else. This will allow all of our members to have them regardless of what tour they play on. We will be improving the look and operation of this area as well in the near future. We also have all of the design team personally designed courses as well. These include all of the great work by the likes of PCDurum, Bullpup, Munroco, Jimbo63, just to name a few. We will also get all of the libraries linked in as well. I also will have a library area where you can get these all zipped by checking the ones you want to download. That is down the road a little but will be coming.

We realize after watching EA bring TWO along that it is not going anywhere very soon to be able to be worthy of running our tour. While we always look for new platforms we realize that TW08 will be the definitive platform through the 2011 season and beyond. We are announcing a new member initiative that will run through the close of the US PGA Championship and will be highlighting the upcoming release of Whistling Straits. This is a momumental course and is the largest team effort we have ever done to date even surpassing Augusta National. This promotion does 2 things, one it is a price reduction of 25% for this period, $15.00 for one year, $25,00 for 2 years or $115.00 for lifetime. Also this incorporates a referral bonus for our existing members. If you refer someone to PGAX, based on the membership level they sign up with, members will be given and extension. So for example, if you refer someone and they join for 2 years you get a 6 month membership extension. The incentives are as follows: 1 year member referral 3 months, 2 years, = 6 months, lifetime = 1 year. This will start tomorrow, July 30 and run till the close of the PGA. There will be a section on the sign-up area for the new member to type in the referring members forum name.

We are getting rid of hamachi after finding out how many problems it has been causing and have been working with a product called Neo Router. This is a solution that allows us to control the entire aspect of the application, most importantly the network and servers. hamachi is leased from their network so we are at the mercy of their saturation. With Neo Router if we become to heavily used, I can increase the network capacity and server resources as needed instantly. This will cut down or virtually eliminate lag, game location issues etc. Best of all it does not require any complicated adjustments or port forwarding. Many of you are already testing this for us. I will be purchasing this next week and we will begin to implement it when Randy is ready. There will be much more information of getting it started from Randy and Shadow when we start.

The software PGAX runs on is primarily Invision Power Boards. It provides us with the entire platform for the website and all of the functionality you see day to day. I am converting this platform to a new enterprise class system that they are in the process of rolling out. The core software does not change, but the enterprise class package gives us dedicated engineers, which aids in deployment of new pages and areas in the site, dedicated 24*7 support, and an extensive additional of featrues which will allow us to better support our members. Integrated help, better documentation, etc. Look forward to seeing this in the next coming weeks. I am negotiating the new contract on that over the next 3 days.

So it promises to be a busy month. New tour portal improvements will roll out extensively this weekend again. Stay tuned. We hope you are enjoying the ride Now I must return to the dungeon to complete the work on the leaderboards and results and schedules. We now return you to your regularly scheduled PGAX event
